In lieu of #SmallBusinessesSaturday and the upcoming holidays, we’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of coming together and creating a strong and vibrant local economy. If you happened to catch our Instagram stories last week you may have seen Friday’s founder, Adam “Sock Man” Thompson, talking about the good feeling small business owners get when you choose to support their product. When you make the choice to shop local, you’re doing more than making a simple business transaction. You’re supporting a dream, a person, a family and most importantly, something greater than yourself; you’re supporting an entire community. Plus, the money you spend goes full circle back into the local economy.
Owning your own business is no walk in the park - we can vouch for that! However, being an ambitious and disruptive small business owner is extremely rewarding in more ways than one. It means you have the power to make a difference, and as a result, it’s a part of our mission here at Friday to find unique opportunities that allow us to partner with other amazing local businesses and make connections within the community. So naturally, when we sat down and chatted about a collaboration with Pam Morales (owner of Crafted), we were 100% on board with the project.
Meet Pam, the lady boss behind Crafted
Pam, is the founder of Crafted, a local Calgary boutique that aims to bring together local makers and artists, and provide them with collaborations and retail opportunities, while making it more accessible for people to shop small.
Her background is in mechanical engineering, graphic design and television production - is there anything the woman doesn’t do? She is also a self-taught fibre artist, which is where her dream owning her own handmade shop and working with other artists came from. It’s also why using yarn and knitting needles was merely the most logical decision when it came down to deciding on the design of our sock collab.
Crafted’s devotion to empower the small business community spoke to everything we we aim to promote within our own growing mismatched sock company. The partnership made complete sense, especially since it gave us the opportunity to come up with a product that represented a great story, and had a unique connection to local makers and designers.
These knitting themed socks come in a crew size and fit women’s size 5 - 10 and men’s sizes 4 - 8. You can purchase them online HERE, or find them at Crafted in the Calgary Farmers Market, Crafted in the Granary Road Public Market or at their sister store, Greater Goods Boutique & Tea Bar.
This collaboration is very near and dear to our hearts and we could not have had more fun coming up with a creative way make a vibrant product that represented our mutual love for supporting local!
With that being said, we would like to say a word of thanks to everyone who continues to support Friday Sock Co. and who make it possible for us to do something we love and are passionate about. The heart of our business lies within all of the people who cheer us on and love our product as much as we do. Our goal a Friday has always been, and always will be, for people to wear our socks and smile. Cause life’s too short to wear matching socks.
